DO NOT underestimate these types of searched phrases as being useless due to low search volumes.  If you are a local plumber in Toronto, it would be better for you to show up for a searched term like “Plumber Toronto” that has a search volume of about 4000 per month than it would be to show up for a broad searched term like “Plumber” that has over 150,000 searches every month in Google.

Keyword phrases that contain local modifiers have a very strong conversion ratio because of buying intent, they have already done their searching and now they are ready to buy LOCALLY.  Something broad like “Plumber” could mean a million things that are not directly related to specifically plumbing services in Toronto the way “Plumber Toronto” is.  The same principals will apply to your local business.

If your business is listed on page 1 of Google in the Google Maps 7-Pack , for  your business services + your local city then this equates to boat loads of consistent leads, sales, clients, and customers everyday for as long as your listing remains there. What would happen to your business if you got 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or more quality leads every day?  Not  some crummy old un-qualified leads, we are talking  cash-in-hand ready to buy leads every single day.  This is the power of the internet.

It is often debated on the exact percentage of  searches that have a local intent, but most studies say all searched keyword phrases have a 20-25% local intent. Now if people add a local modifier like the example above, then the intent is obviously 100%.

Now it’s free to get a listing within Google’s Local Business Center (or now known as Google’s Places), but that is not going to necessarily guarantee you that your business shows up in these 7-Pack Google Maps Listings.  If your business is listed in the  “More results near…” section, then your business is basically invisible.
