Tom, great job. Good example how a small business can use my maps to help promote their business and get a vote towards their Places Page rankings. My Maps are not used often enough by local businesses.

Thanks for the great info, can you look at my tourist map i created for my community and give me your opinion. i plan to add more custom icons and links. My map is currently embedded in my web site and hope google spiders will soon find it so i can showcase it to cruise ship visitors to arrive at the end of the month . – you have to type http://www.thebestofnanaimo.com in your address bar to view it.

Any advice would help

I’m not sure that it comes up on organic results only on maps with certain keyword searches. Also not sure if you need a certain amount of views to appear also?

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the kind words. Yes Google index’s them as long as you set them to public. Tags & categories are always good. Just like wordpress blogs.

All kinds of possibilities here for local business.

Map out a scenic drive, things to see before rolling into your restaurant. Create a scavenger hunt contest among local businesses. Contractors could map out projects completed in a local area for prospects to visit.

Plus with pictures and video embeds, it adds interest.

And… it’s all free to do thanks to Google.

Question: Does Goggle index these maps? Geo-tag indicators? Is use of category keywords helpful?

As always, you share simple, practical stuff that local biz can use that works.
