Inside Google’s Search Algorithm

Google’s Search Algorithm Video

Very interesting video about how Google decides on their search algorithm.   Google makes over 500 changes a year to their algorithm.

Matt Cutts says, “There is no perfect algorithm that will make everything perfect in search”.

Go to 41 minutes to hear why they do not hand choose results and why Google must use an algorithm to decide search result rankings.     The myth that Google will hand remove spammers is not true.  They have to make a algorithm changes to change rankings in the SERPs to spam.

Jump to 1 hour and 12 minutes to hear about the future of where Google’s search is going?  Particularly towards personalized search results and how: Google Calendar, Google To-Do Lists and Google Wallet will help personalized search.

Let me know your thoughts about this very interesting video about Google’s search algorithm.   What was what you thought the most interesting part?

It’s interesting at 1:19mins the question about why display so many results for a keyword search and one fo the Google Search Team Engineers confirms that “if you don’t find what you are looking for within the first 2-3 results, then you should call us”. Just another confirmation that a business with some online presence that is on the 2nd page or even below the fold (half way mark of your computer screen) might not get the desired traffic from potential Customers. The lionshare of the traffic will go to businesses that are above the fold.

I love that as a company culture, at Google they don’t ‘obsess about titles (job positions) so they can get to the job at hand’- WOW! and how management must know the basics of an engineers job because they are 1st engineers, in order to manage engineers effectively and be respected by them because of their technical knowledge and similar thinking processes.
