SEOBook released this infographic recently (see below) and I thought it was so appropriate. We are in the era of Goldilocks SEO, you need all your link building efforts to be “just right” to not get tapped by Google.
We had about 25% of our sites get hit with the recent update of Penguin (track Google algo changes here), but the good news is we seem to of recovered 8 sites so far (not 100% sure if it’s due to what we are doing or if the algo was a little gentler on Memorial’s weekend update).
For those who want to know what we have been doing to recover site’s rankings is really no surprise…… we are building a whack of generic anchor text links. I was being gentle last month with it, but I have taken a couple sites I don’t care about and I am now being extremely aggressive with this strategy. I want to know by next update if it’s working or not working. I don’t want to spend 5-6 months P*SSY-FOOTING around to only find out it is not working or even worse not recoverable.
We are also taking a couple domains and we are cloning out content from affected penguin sites, getting them re-indexed, then going to do a 301 redirect to see what happens. Hoping it’ll pass all link juice, but not the penalty. Cross your fingers for us!
Not too worried, most us SEO’s are resilient and will figure it out.
