I thought this was an interesting video from Matt Cutts (who is Google’s Head Cheese for SEO Spam Control). He talks about where he would like to see Google in 5 years. If you read in between the lines, he mentions some very interesting things. One being the use of mobile smart phones and the other cloud computing. I think he is bang on with this one!
Now if we know that the future ‘personal computer’ will be our phones then as small business owners we need to start asking ourselves how do we make sure our internet marketing strategies are smart phone friendly. May I suggest (if you have not done this yet) to get a hold of a smart phone and do some searching and browsing on the phone to see what shows up when people are searching on keyword phrases that are related to your local business’s services and/or products.
Then ask yourself these 3 basic questions:
- Does your website load and read well in a smart phone?
- Are your PPC campaigns targeted for mobile phones?
- Are you getting enough reviews to get a “rich snippet” in maps?
If your business is not showing up on your test smart phone searches then you may want to put that on the forefront of your marketing ‘to do’ list in 2010.
