Google Places Updates From Vanessa Schneider

Vanessa Schneider, the Google Places community manager (aka vanessagene) is now doing weekly roundups on Google Places.  I think she does a great job.  Vanessa gives credit to two of my Google Places peeps: Linda and Nyagoslav for encouraging the idea.

Here are Vanessa’s Weekly Roundup Updates & Tips to Google Places:

Recent Google Places Launches:

  • Launched new interface for bulk upload feature for people who are managing 10 or more locations for one business.  It’s faster and easier to use

Technical fixes:

We Do Not Support This Location Bug Fixed

A lot of people were seeing messages of “We do not support this location”.  This is now fixed and you shouldn’t be seeing that anymore
If you are still having this challenge, then go to business forum and at top of all threads at top hand corner.  Please go read the thread on the ‘we do not support…’ topic and it will give you next steps of solving this challenge

Image Uploading Fixed

When you are uploading images to places listing you have option of uploading from your desktop, which is recommended or the option to upload via url.  Normally you would get an error message, but that is fixed now.

Best Google Places Practices:

Where do you put ‘suite #’ in address fields?

In the Google Places dashboard there is ‘address line 1′ and ‘address line 2′.  You should put the street name and number in the ‘address line1′ field and then put your suite number in ‘address line2′.

Other Recent Google Places Challenges

Have missing videos on your Google Places listing?

There are reports of videos that are missing. They are live on the dashboard but not on listing.  This should be fixed now, and may be related to ‘we do not support this listing’ issue.  Just post into the forum if you are experiencing these problems

Forum pro tips:

How do you unsubscribe from Google Place’s Forum emails?

After posting your first thread, you get ton of emails from forum and a lot of people do not want to get all those emails.  It’s annoying.
This is how you can fix this:  Go to the Google Your Business Forum homepage and right at the top is ‘My Membership’.  Simply go to the email settings and then set that you ‘don’t want to accept any emails’.  Done.
